A Swedish man voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Phuket on May 19 after allegedly attacking an Indian man outside a hotel in Patong. The assault stemmed from a dispute over missing money, with the incident occurring the previous day, May 18, outside the Patong Platinum Hotel. The assailant has been identified as Noel Akdemir, while the victim is reported to be Bahrat Kumawat, the hotel’s owner, aged 42.
Footage of the altercation was shared on the Newshawk Phuket Facebook page. The video depicted a heated exchange in the hotel lobby, during which Kumawat threatened Akdemir with a chair, leading to the latter leaving the premises. However, Akdemir returned shortly after and confronted another Indian man, where he was seen slapping him before fleeing again.
Kumawat subsequently filed a complaint at Patong Police Station on the same day as the incident, detailing injuries including wounds to his head and left arm. Following the release of the video and news reports, Akdemir reached out to local media and arranged to surrender to the police.
Upon surrendering, Akdemir acknowledged his actions and expressed remorse, stating that the confrontation was provoked by a hotel employee allegedly stealing 6,000 baht from him. He claimed that his attempts to seek help from hotel staff and Kumawat were met with insults, though specifics of the alleged insults were not disclosed.
According to the Frank Patong Facebook page, Kumawat is considering pursuing legal action against Akdemir, who has filed a counter-complaint regarding the theft. Authorities have accepted both complaints and are facilitating a meeting between the involved parties, which is scheduled for today, May 20. Details regarding any potential resolutions or further legal action remain unavailable.
