Phuket, 3 September 2025 – Authorities in Wichit have apprehended a 49-year-old man in connection with a late-night arson attack on a vehicle belonging to his ex-wife.
The red Mazda 2 was set ablaze outside her residence in the Moo 6 area in the early hours of Monday.
Police reviewed video surveillance showing a man donning a clear raincoat, shorts, and a motorcycle helmet arriving via motorcycle, pouring a flammable substance over the car, and igniting it before fleeing. The victim—separated from the suspect for over two months—noted a striking resemblance to her former husband.
Acting swiftly, law enforcement obtained an arrest warrant the following day
The suspect was detained at his home. Investigators also confiscated the motorcycle presumed to have been used during the incident..
In custody, the suspect admitted he acted out of emotional frustration and remorse. Wichit’s Chief of Police described the event as “a serious violation of public safety,” and praised the team’s fast response in securing the arrest within roughly 24 hours.
He currently faces charges related to arson.
