On June 1, a foreign man was taken into custody by police in Phuket after he reportedly created disturbances at a convenience store and attempted to steal items from a local resident’s property. The situation gained attention when a Thai homeowner posted a video on Facebook showing two officers confronting the man outside her residence. The woman, identified as Kim-Kat Kapyatorn, claimed that the foreigner had entered her yard and tried to take a raincoat and a motorcycle helmet left outside. She expressed concern about the safety of her motorcycle, stating, ‘I think I would lose the motorcycle if I leave the key there.’ Despite her efforts to scare the man off, she was unsuccessful, prompting the arrival of the police shortly thereafter. According to the homeowner, she did not reach out to the authorities herself; instead, employees from a nearby convenience store reported the man’s behavior after he allegedly caused a ruckus there prior to the incident at her home. Video footage from the scene depicted the man, clad only in orange shorts, sitting on the ground outside the property while police officers searched his backpack. One officer was seen holding the man’s passport as they spoke with him. At one point during the encounter, the foreign man lay down on the ground. The specifics of their conversation were not captured in the video. The homeowner did not provide additional information about the incident’s resolution, and the police have yet to disclose the individual’s identity, nationality, or potential charges. This incident follows a similar occurrence last month when a British national created a disturbance in Chalong while wielding a knife, and another incident in Pattaya where a foreign man acted aggressively after being awakened by a motorcycle taxi rider.
