A foreign woman was recorded stealing a souvenir from a shop located in the Thalang district of Phuket on May 17.
The shop’s security footage was subsequently shared on the Phuket Times Facebook page, aiming to alert other local business owners and assist in identifying the suspect. The incident reportedly took place around 3:45 PM.
In the video, the woman, dressed in a white shirt and pink skirt with braided pigtails, was seen carrying both a white shoulder bag and a plastic bag. The shop owner did not specify her nationality.
As per the shop owner’s account, the woman first picked up a model of a traditional Thai-style house before turning away from the camera. She was then observed allegedly placing a second item, described as a decorative flower basket model, into her plastic bag.
Afterward, the foreign woman brought the house model to a staff member to process her payment. Upon noticing the second item, the employee inquired about it. The suspect purportedly asserted that she had already paid another staff member for the flower basket. Once she completed the payment for the house model, she exited the shop. However, staff later verified with their colleagues and found that no payment had been made for the flower basket.
The shop owner did not disclose the value of the items taken, and it remains unknown if a police report was filed against the woman.
A similar incident occurred in Krabi in April, where a foreign tourist was also caught on CCTV stealing from a cannabis shop in the Ao Nang area. Reports indicated that the man waited for a staff member to fall asleep before taking a cannabis joint stored in a small plastic tube. Footage showed him returning later to attempt further theft, but he was interrupted by the shop owner. He then pretended to browse, purchased a lighter, and left. No arrests related to that case have been reported by Thai media.
