Government Invites Public to Participate in Bangkok and Phuket Pride Events

The government has called on citizens to partake in the upcoming Bangkok and Phuket Pride events scheduled for tomorrow, emphasizing the country’s ambition to host World Pride 2030. Patdarasm Thongsaluaykorn, the deputy government spokeswoman, announced that the Bangkok Pride Festival 2026 will carry the theme “Patch the World with Pride,” as Thailand ramps up its efforts to secure the prestigious event.

This initiative follows the recent memorandum of understanding signed by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and Bangkok Pride, establishing a “Pride City Network” that encompasses 58 pilot provinces. The aim is to prepare local communities to welcome LGBTQ+ tourists globally, while also promoting human rights and fostering the “rainbow economy” for the future.

A highlight of this year’s Bangkok Pride Festival will feature a five-kilometre parade taking place tomorrow from 2 PM to 10 PM, starting at Khlong Chong Nonsi Park and progressing along Silom and Rama I roads. The festival will also celebrate Thai cultural heritage, including performances by the renowned mor lam troupe “Rabieb Watasin” at Thephasadin Stadium.

Social Development and Human Security Minister Nikorn Soemklang remarked that hosting World Pride 2030 would represent a significant milestone as it would be the first time the event is held in Asia. He pointed out that Bangkok is marketed internationally as “the city that lets you be yourself,” with LGBTQ+ travellers identified as a promising demographic for tourism due to their substantial spending power and tendency for longer stays.

In addition, Phuket is gearing up for its own “Phuket Pride Festival 2026,” set to take place from June 1 to June 7, under the theme “From Visibility to Equality.” Organized by the Andaman Power Phuket Association along with partners from the Pride City Network, the festival will feature beach volleyball tournaments, Pride Talk forums, the Miss Queen Andaman Power 2026 pageant, and a significant pride parade.
