In Phuket, police have apprehended an individual believed to be involved in a spate of residential thefts in the Chalong area, successfully recovering stolen items valued at over 800,000 baht, which includes cash, watches, and other valuables hidden following break-ins during the Songkran holiday.
The investigation commenced after a foreign national reported suspicious activities during an attempted burglary at their home in the Chalong subdistrict. This was followed by a second incident where a safe containing cash was stolen from a nearby residence.
Using CCTV footage and other pertinent evidence, detectives were able to identify the suspect, who had disguised himself in a delivery uniform to target vacant homes during the holiday period. Subsequently, police secured warrants for the suspect’s arrest.
Upon arrest, authorities seized a variety of valuables, including cash and watches. A thorough search of the suspect’s home resulted in the recovery of cash exceeding 800,000 baht. Additionally, remnants of the stolen safe were discovered in a mining pit in Wichit subdistrict, aided by a diving unit.
Ongoing investigations aim to recover more stolen property and ascertain whether additional individuals were involved in the thefts. Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn, along with local officials, continues to advocate for coordinated law enforcement efforts to sustain public safety throughout the province.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of both residents and tourists and encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities via the hotline 191 or directly to local police.
