On Tuesday, a 51-year-old man surrendered to authorities concerning multiple allegations of encroachment on protected forest land at Freedom Beach in Phuket. The individual, known only by his first name, Parinthorn, presented himself to the Karon police station to face charges related to the illegal occupation of approximately 10 rai of reserve forest.
This development follows a series of inspections into the encroachment activities, which were conducted by Pol Maj Gen Nuntachat Supamongkhol, who serves as the assistant to the natural resources and environment minister. He was joined by Phuket MP Chalermpong Saengdee and Pol Col Phakkhayot Thanongsak, the deputy chief of Phuket provincial police.
Authorities indicated that Parinthorn is linked to four separate cases of forest land encroachment. Pol Col Patthapee Srichai, the chief of Karon police station, confirmed that the suspect was informed of the charges against him, underwent questioning, and provided his fingerprints as part of the legal process.
Col Patthapee further stated that law enforcement has been directed to manage the investigation with diligence and transparency, working closely with forestry officials in Phuket to compile evidence for subsequent legal proceedings.
