The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rains across various regions of Thailand from Thursday through Monday of next week.

Sugunyanee Yavinchan, the department’s director-general, announced on Wednesday that significant rainfall is anticipated in the North, Central Plains, East, and South. There is a risk of flash floods and run-off, particularly in areas with slopes, waterways, and low-lying regions.

This weather pattern is linked to an active low-pressure system expected to shift towards the upper Bay of Bengal, compounded by a strengthening southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Throughout the period from Thursday to the following Monday, sea conditions in the Andaman Sea are expected to worsen, with waves reaching heights of two to three meters and potentially exceeding three meters during thundershowers. Ms. Sugunyanee recommended that small vessels remain ashore during this time.
