Thailand has solidified its position as a top global travel destination, earning prestigious international awards for its sustainable tourism practices, luxury offerings, wellness retreats, and overall high-value travel experiences across various locations, including Phuket, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Koh Lanta.
As the country navigates economic changes, geopolitical issues, and domestic challenges, it has continued to receive accolades into 2025 and 2026. According to Natthriya Thaweevong, the Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports, Thailand frequently ranks among the top five travel destinations according to numerous tourism organizations and publications. The awards highlight the country’s strengths in natural tourism, sustainability, luxury services, and high-caliber events.
Koh Lanta in Krabi Province has been honored with the Green Destinations Story Award 2026 for Nature and Scenery at the ITB Berlin event in Germany, recognizing its effective blend of environmental conservation and tourism management. Meanwhile, Doi Phu Kha National Park in Nan Province and Takua Pa Old Town in Phang Nga Province were recipients of the Green Destinations Awards 2026 for their sustainable development and preservation of community identity. Moreover, Chiang Khan in Loei Province and Uthai Thani Province earned recognition for their commitments to environmental preservation and community involvement.
In terms of luxury travel, Forbes Travel Guide for 2025–2026 has identified Bangkok as a leading global luxury destination. Phuket remains a key player as a world-class marine tourism hub, while Koh Samui is gaining popularity for its wellness and luxury retreats. Additionally, international media have spotlighted Chiang Mai as a premier Asian city for digital nomads, attributing its appeal to its strong digital infrastructure, quality of life, and cultural richness. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports emphasized that these accolades reflect a strategic focus on high-quality, sustainable travel experiences, ensuring that Thailand can cater to diverse travel segments, from leisure and nature to wellness and luxury, including those seeking remote work opportunities.
