In a concerning incident, two foreign tourists were filmed playing football inside a shopping mall located in Phuket, Thailand. The video, shared by Phuket Times on Facebook on May 11, shows the individuals, believed to be Russian nationals, kicking a football back and forth in the mall’s walkway.
Despite the presence of shoppers and warnings from those around them, the two men continued their game, leading to concerns about the potential for injury to bystanders, including children and elderly patrons, as well as possible damage to mall property.
According to Khaosod, attempts were made to alert the tourists to their inappropriate behavior, but they seemed to disregard the warnings and continued playing unbothered.
The exact timing of the incident remains unknown, but the video has sparked significant backlash on social media. Many netizens criticized the tourists for their actions, with some calling for stricter enforcement of rules against such behavior in public spaces.
One commenter questioned the effectiveness of mall security, asking, “What are mall security guards for?” while another suggested that any damage caused should incur a penalty of ten times the original value. A further comment remarked that such incidents have become increasingly common in Phuket, stating, “A typical day in Phuket.”
Additionally, local residents have reported a rise in inappropriate behavior by foreign tourists in popular areas, prompting calls for authorities and mall security to take firmer action to protect Phuket’s tourism reputation.
