A 30-year-old Turkish national was found deceased in a residence located in Kamala, Phuket, on May 26. Local police reported that there were no indications of assault or foul play at the scene. During their investigation, they discovered cannabis and drug paraphernalia in the area where the body was located.
The Kamala Police Station received a distress call from rescue personnel at approximately 3:30 PM. Officers promptly responded to the three-storey residence situated in the Kamala subdistrict of Kathu district. Upon arrival, they found the body positioned near the bedroom door on the third floor.
Authorities stated that there were no apparent wounds or signs of a struggle. However, traces of bodily fluids were noted on the deceased’s face, and vomit was found in the toilet.
A friend, also a Turkish national, informed investigators that he last saw the man alive around 3 AM. He reported that the deceased had been experiencing coughing fits, vomiting, and back pain throughout the night. The friend indicated that the deceased regularly consumed cannabis in conjunction with medication for symptom management and had used these substances prior to his death.
The two had slept in separate rooms, and the friend discovered the man unresponsive when he awakened around 3 PM, prompting him to contact rescue services.
Phuket News reported that a search of the room confirmed the presence of cannabis, drug-related items, and signs of recent use. Investigators found no evidence of forced entry or a disturbance within the residence.
Forensic experts from Vachira Phuket Hospital conducted an initial examination at the scene. The body has since been transferred to Patong Hospital for further legal proceedings and a formal autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
Kamala Police are currently collaborating with the Turkish Embassy to notify the deceased’s relatives and facilitate the necessary religious rites.
